When Your Literal Deadline is Nothing More Than an Expiration Date

April 22, 2017

So, in a country where a black American can be killed for just about anything and the entire breadth of his criminality is put forth in the media to justify his death, tell me why the only justification written for the execution of this man is what was written below?

Now, I am assuming that all my white, well meaning, super investigators will begin to pour over Arkansas crime bulletins, his arrest and prison records and the court case transcripts to inform me that he deserved to die, so I look forward to reading everything that you find. But as far as I am concerned, that second paragraph of this news story just doesn't do it for me.

"Lee’s conviction --

"Lee was convicted in 1995 in the murder of Debra Reese, 26, two years prior. Reese was found dead in her home in Jacksonville, Arkansas, where she had been strangled and beaten with a small wooden bat her husband gave her for protection.

"Several of Reese’s neighbors saw Lee near the house and identified him to police."
